SCHIABEL, H.; MARTINEZ, A. C.; VIEIRA, M. A. C.; ESCARPINATI, M. C. – Evaluating the influence of image acquisition system quality on a mammographic images processing scheme – SCAR Annual Meeting 2005, p. 90-91, Orlando, FL (USA) – June, 2-5, 2005.

This work intends to demonstrate the effect of the main characteristics from the mammography image acquisition and digitization processes in the development and usage of image processing schemes in aiding breast diseases diagnosis, as well as in developing mammographic images database. Taking particular sets of images, comparisons were performed between mammograms processed by a technique designed to detect clustered microcalcifications before and after application of a procedure based on the quality parameters from the mammography system and the digitizer. The results have shown an increase of up to 14% in the scheme sensibility when the pre-processing was used, which can provide the development of a more uniform images database.
